A few years ago my hubby generously bought me an iPad for Christmas. It didn’t take long for my kids to take it over. Soon it was filled with kids apps and movies with no storage left over for me. Since then tablets have become more common and their features have been geared toward family use, giving parents the tools the need . In fact, Amazon has created a Kindle Fire HD Kids Edition that is loaded to the brim everything you’d want in a tablet! Most importantly, it comes with a 2 year worry-free guarantee. If it breaks for any reason, Amazon will replace it for free — no questions asked. That alone has me sold! You know you will get at least two years worth of use out of the device no matter what and you won’t have to worry about how rough your kids get with it.
The tablet also comes with a Kid-Proof case. I was at an event recently where I was able to demo the tablet and speak with Amazon representatives. During the demonstration, the rep threw the tablet at a wall and high into the air letting it land on the floor and it survived without any problem! It was pretty amazing. My daughter dropped my tablet about a year ago and it’s been on the fritz ever since. While it still works, it’s touch and go. The Kid-proof cases are lightweight (made out of the same material as Crocs shoes) and come in 3 fun colors (blue, pink and green).
The fun starts right out of the box because the Kindle Fire Kids Edition comes with one year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited which is a hand-curated subscription of over 8,000 kid-friendly books, movies, TV shows, educational apps, and games.
As a parent, one of my favorite features of the tablet is the parental controls. You can create individual profiles for each family member. The kids profiles will not have access to any social media or email or web browser Additionally, you can set educational goals and screen time limits for each child. It even allows you to block access to games and cartoons until educational goals like 30 minutes of reading are met. You can set up when FreeTime can be used too. I love this feature because my son sometimes gets up super early and sneaks the iPad to play games. With the Kindle Kids Edition, you can set up when the device can be used, making clear boundaries for your children.
The Kindle has front and back cameras and fun editing tools that let kids get creative by adding stickers, drawing and more. All of the images are saved to the parent profile so you can monitor and share them from your full featured profile.
Available in 6″ and 7″ sizes priced at $149 and $189 respectively, the Kindle Kids Edition is an excellent value and it ships for free! You can find out more about the device and order HERE.
